A video of a Doordarshan cameraman recording his ‘last message’ for his mother as his team came under brutal attack by Naxals in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday has gone viral. DD News cameraman Achundanand Sahu was killed along with two other security personnel after they were attacked by Maoists in the poll-bound state.
Meanwhile, a video of Mor Mukut Sharma recording his ‘last message’ for his mother has emerged. Sharma, who too was the part of the DD News team that came under attack from Maoists in Dantewada, too was injured. Realising that he may not survive, he began to record a last message for his mother.
He said in the message, “There has been a terror attack. We had come here for the election coverage in Dantewada. We are on our way with army personnel when Naxals ambushed us. Mummy I love you so much. I may die in this attack. The situation is not good. I don’t know why I am not feeling scared even though I can see death in front of me.”
His recording was disturbed by strong sounds of firing in the background. Sharma is believed to be fine now.
Union Minister Smriti Irani lauded his bravery and said, “Exemplary courage, dedication. words fail to describe the fearlessness shown under fire. My tributes. Condolences to loved ones.”

Sahu, who was cremated in his native state Odisha on Wednesday, was based in Delhi and had joined DD News in 2013 as a cameraman, reported Indian Express.
Chhattisgarh, which is going for assembly polls in two stages on 12 and 20 November, has been one of the worst affected regions of India that faced Maoist insurgency. The latest attack by Maoists came just a day after Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad claimed in Chhattisgarh that the number of Maoist-affected districts has reduced from 150 to 78-80 over the years.
