Bollywood superstar Salman Khan on Thursday was sentenced to 5-year jail term in a two-decade-old blackbuck poaching case.Salman was expected to get the bail the same day had the judge not given him more than 2-year jail term. 5-year jail term meant that the actor had to spend a night in jail in Jodhpur in Rajasthan.

The Jodhpur judge, however, had acquitted other accused namely Saif Ali Khan, Neelam, Tabu and Sonali Bendre, who were present with Salman during the shooting of Hum Saath Saath Hain in 1998, when the poaching of black buck took place.

Some reports said that Salman broke down inside the court after hearing the 5-year jail term. However, away from the emotional upheaval gripping the superstar’s family, the Tiger Zinda Hai actor’s actor Being Human was busy helping a desperate man, who was in urgent need of securing funds for his mother’s treatment.

Mumbai resident Naseem Khan told ABP News that he had contacted Being Human Foundation on Wednesday, a day before, Salman was convicted, for help as he urgently needed Rs 1.30 lakh for his mother’s treatment.

“ Someone from Salman’s NGO called me within 24 hours with a letter promising to release Rs 70,000 towards my mother’s treatment. They said they will take care of the remaining treatment cost too.”

Naseem Khan said that even though the court had convicted Salman and sentenced him to 5-year in jail, the Bollywood actor was a ‘farishta (angel)’ to him.

“I don’t want to go into details of what Salman did and why he has been given 5-year jail term. But what I know that he’s done a lot of good to not just me, but many other families. My mother is suffering from heart ailment, Salman, his family and NGO have given us the much-needed relief,” added Naseem Khan.

Salman’s concoction and the subsequent jail term have divided the opinion on social media. While many felt the punishment was disproportionate, others concluded that the judge had given a powerful message that no one was above the law in the country.

Meanwhile, the Jodhpur court reserved its order on Salman’s bail plea till Saturday. This means that the actor will have to spend at least one more night in police custody.
