Police in Mumbai has arrested a local businessman for allegedly molesting the teenage Bollywood actor Zaira Wasim in a flight over the weekend.
The 39-year-old businessman was arrested on Sunday after a huge public outcry over the incident. Zaira Wasim, who shot to fame with Aamir Khan-starrer blockbuster, Dangal, had posted a moving video on Instagram with tears rolling down her face.
The incident had prompted both Delhi Commission for Women and the Maharashtra State Commission for Women to seek an inquiry into the “shameful” incident.
Police in Mumbai said that the alleged culprit was identified as Vikas Sachdev and he was arrested on Sunday evening. Deputy Commissioner of Police Anil Kumbhare said that he will be produced in the court on Monday (today).
Sachdev has been booked under section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of IPC, and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) since the actor is a minor, Senior Police Inspector, Sahar, Lata Shirsat, was quoted by PTI.
Zaira had alleged that her co-passenger molested her while she was travelling flight in an Air Vistara flight from Delhi to Mumbai on Saturday night. She had posted two videos on Instagram.
Zaira said in the video, “So, I just landed and you know the whole irony of this is that the guy… this is not done at all. This is not the way, this is not a girl should be made to feel because this is terrible. Is this how they are doing to take care of girls? No one will help us if we don’t decide to help ourselves. This is the worst thing,”
