Mukund Padmanabhan appointed editor for The Hindu, only second non-family member in paper’s 125-year-old history


Two months after Malini Parthasarthy’s resignation as The Hindu’s editor shocked everyone, the newspaper on Wednesday announced the appointment of her successor.

According to a report in Business Standard, Mukund Padmanabhan will be the new Editor for the The Hindu.

Published from Chennai, the newspaper is one of the largest English dailies in the country.

Padmanabhan has become only the second non family member to become the paper’s editor its 125-year history.

He’s been with the group for nearly 15 years with his last being the editor of The Hindu Business Line.

Malini Parthasarthy had quit the role in January this year.

As reporter, Padmanabhan has reported from many countries including Sri Lanka, Britain, Australia, Malaysia, Britain and other countries in Europe.

Among other publications, he has also worked for Sunday, the weekly magazine in Calcutta and the Indian Express before joining The Hindu.
