More than 60 students fall sick after consuming mid-day meal in a Bihar school

According to reports, more than 60 school children fell sick after consuming the school’s mid-day meal. The incident was reported from Bhavnathpur Primary School under Bhairav Sthan police station in Bihar’s Chhapra district.

The students were rushed to a primary health centre (PHC) at Jhanjharpur from where 30 of them were released after preliminary treatment.

“The students complained of burning sensation in the throat and stomach ache after consuming food provided by the school authorities”, Bhairav Sthan Station House officer SN Das told the media.

The SHO added 30 students were under observation at the PHC. The police also seized samples of food given to the children and sent them for forensic tests.

The Mid-day Meal Scheme is a school meal programme of the Government of India designed to improve the nutritional status of school-age children nationwide.
