Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray on Saturday launched a blistering attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling him a liar. Tahckeray also warned that he will not allow a ‘single brick’ to be placed in Mumbai for the bullet train unless the government improved the existing infrastructure for the local trains.
His attack for the PM came a day after a stampede at Mumbai’s Elphinstone Road station killed at least 26 people and injured nearly 40 commuters.
“I shall not allow even a brick for the Bullet Train project to be laid. First resolve all the basic problems of Mumbai commuters. If Modi wants, let him construct it in Gujarat. If they use force, we shall also retaliate,” Thackeray was quoted by IANS.
Calling Modi a “liar” who changed all his statements before and after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, an agitated Thackeray said, “We have never seen a PM who is such a big liar. He made big promises and then dismissed them as ‘election jumlas’. How much can a person lie in this fashion?”
He called the railway minister, Piyush Goyal ‘useless’ adding that Suresh Prabhu was ‘good.’
“This Goyal is useless, Prabhu was good.”
Thackeray said that he will lead an agitation on 5 October to oppose the plans to create infrastructure for bullet train.
Modi’s pet project, bullet train between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, has come under heavy criticism even from his government partner, Shiv Sena, which had termed the deaths at Elphinstone Road a ‘massacre.’
The Congress too had raised questions on the need for bullet train when lack of infrastructure was responsible for killing so many ordinary train passengers in one of India’s largest cities. The government was also condemned for not paying heed to the warnings from the citizens, many of whom highlighted the problem as early as in January this year.
