MK Meena of ACB is not working in accordance with law: Delhi government to High Court

Aam Aadmi Part led Delhi government has told city High Court that the ACB chief M K Meena was hampering the working of the anti-graft body by intimidating its officials.

According to reports, the government said that  he was “not working in accordance with law” by not letting others work.

This comes after officer S S Yadav, who was heading the ACB until Meena was brought in by the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, complained that he was being pressurised by Meena and couldn’t effectively discharge his duties.

This stand-off has resulted in the ACB having two chiefs.

Despite the Delhi government’s push for an urgent inquiry, the Court has accepted the Centre’s request for a week’s time to reply to the allegations made. The hearing has been scheduled for August 27th.

This continues the simmering war between the LG and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is challenging the 21 May and 23 July notifications of Centre, which gave Jung the absolute power to appoint bureaucrats in Delhi and simultaneously restricted the ACB’s powers from investigating any central government officials.
The centre has been quick to dismiss this as a simple “grudge” saying Meena has been working within his powers.
Kejriwal, on a number of occasions, has directly blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this ‘fiasco’ affecting his ability to govern Delhi effectively. On Wednesday, while sharing the stage with Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar in Delhi, he accused Modi of sending paramilitary forces to the state secretariat and take control of the ACB office.
