Mig 21 fighter aircraft crashes in Kashmir, pilot safe

An indian army Mig 21 fighter aircraft crashed on Monday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district 20 kms away from Srinagar, a defence spokesman said.

Srinagar based defence spokesman Col N N Joshi while confirming the crash told jantakareporter.com,” The crash of our Mig 21 fighter air craft took place in central Kashmir’s Budgam district  today in the morning hours. Our crew is safe. We are ascertaining what led to this crash.”

Locals of the area said that they heard loud explosion sound in a village paddy field before they could see huge flames rising in the sky.

PTI reported that the pilot had managed to eject from the plane “just in time” and he was retrieved from the crash scene by an army helicopter.

A court of inquiry has also been ordered to ascertain the cause of the crash, the spokesman added.
