Meet Manikandan Kumar, whose silver medal winning performance in World Cup went unnoticed


In a cricket crazy country, it’s not a surprise that an Indian para-climber, Manikandan Kumar’s splendid performance at the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup in Chamonix, France, has gone unnoticed.

The story was brought to the attention of by one of our audience members, Seema Rao, who appeared enraged over the way Indian media had given this story a miss.

Kumar made India proud by clinching the silver medal at the event last week. He finished second in the Men’s Neurological disability category.

Soon after his victory, Kumar updated his Facebook page by announcing his silver medal winning performance.

He wrote, “Here is the much awaited results and I just finished with 2nd place, but I missed the gold by one hold and I’m really happy with my performance,also very much happy to make my country proud by winning the silver medal.”

He thanked everyone who had supported him financially for him to achieve this feat.

Kumar, has had to struggle for necessary funds to keep his dream alive. This despite his consistently high performance at the international level.
