An opinion poll by ABP News has revealed that the Bahujan Samajwadi Party’s supremo Mayawati was the most popular leader for the chief minister’s post if elections were to be held in Uttar Pradesh today.
Mayawati with 32% approval is the most popular choice, while the current chief minister Akhilesh Yadav is close behind with 30%. Rajnath Singh (now the Union Home Minister) is a distant third.
Mayawati also appears to be translating her individual popularity into popular votes.
In Western Uttar Pradesh, which has 145 assembly seats, the BSP is likely to win whopping 80 seats, while the BJP, which swept the Lok Sabha elections in the state by wiining 71 out of 80 parliamentary seats, is also expected to win 32 seats.
Overall, BSP is expected to win 185 seats, the BJP just 120, Samajwadi Party 80 and the Congress 13.
However, 62% people who took part in the survey said they were satisfied with Narendra Modi’s performance as prime minister.
The channel in collaboration Neilsen had spoken to over 19,000 respondents for this survey.
