Bollywood actor Mallika Sherawat is being evicted from her posh Paris apartment for failing to pay her rent amounting to 78,787 euros ($94,000).
A court in Paris had ordered her eviction on 14 December directing Sherawat and her boyfriend Cyrille Auxenfans to pay the rent owed and expenses, while giving the green light for their furniture to be seized.
The couple began renting the apartment in the pricey 16th district on 1 January, 2017, for a monthly sum of 6,054 euros, reported news agency AFP.
But other than making a single payment of 2,715 euros, the owner of the flat claimed, the couple never paid the rent.
At a hearing in a Paris court on 14 November, a lawyer for the couple said they were in financial difficulty.
Sherawat, for her part, had earlier denied the reports saying that she did not even have an apartment in Paris, let alone being kicked out of one.
“It’s absolutely not true, if someone has donated one to me, please send me the address,” she had tweeted in response to media reports about the case.
Some reports suggested that the couple refused to pay the rent to show their annoyance after they were beaten by three masked men in their Paris apartment block in November 2016.
They cannot be thrown out until March 31, when a moratorium on wintertime evictions expires.
