Arvinder Singh Lovely, who quit the Congress just before the crucial MCD polls last year to join the BJP, has returned to his parent party. After joining the BJP, Lovely had lashed out at the Congress leadership terming the party ‘dead.’
He had said, “The child has died. The party is finished.” The news of Lovely leaving the party had come when Ajay Maken, the party’s Delhi unit chief, was about to make a live appearance on a TV channel. Upon hearing the news, Maken had broken down in tears as he struggled to control his emotions.
He said that he was surprised over the development because Lovely was campaigning for the party in the MCD polls until last night. Maken said he was hurt by Lovely’s decision adding that he didn’t quite know what to comment on a a person who gives up his ideology for political gains.
There are reports that the decision on Lovely’s return was taken after he met Congress President Rahul Gandhi. Not so long ago, Maken too had met the former Delhi chief minister, Sheila Dikshit, at the instructions from Gandhi to bury their differences and lead the party together.
PC Chacko, in-charge for Delhi and Maken are speaking to media today on Lovely’s return to the party. Speaking to media, Lovely said that the decision to leave the Congress was painful even for him since he found himself misfit with the BJP ideology.
Maken, for his part, confessed that he had made mistakes as the PCC President leaving room for improvements while communicating with party colleagues. Lovely was, however, not allowed to answer a question from a reporter on what he thought of his grave charges levelled against the party and Maken when he left the BJP.
