Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had been placed on life support after his condition deteriorated with multi-organ failure. Sarma said that Gogoi had become unconscious with difficulty in breathing. The 86-year-old former Congress chief minister, according to news agency PTI, has been put under invasive ventilation at Gauhati Medical College, where he was admitted on 2 November.

“Around afternoon today, his condition deteriorated with difficulties in breathing. So, doctors started an intubation ventilator, which is machine ventilation,” Sarma was quoted as saying.

The three-term former chief minister was discharged from the hospital after successfully recovering from post-COVID-19 complications. He had tested positive for COVID-19 in August this year.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot tweeted, “Much concerned about the health of senior Congress leader and former CM of Assam, Tarun Gogoi ji. I pray for his good health and wish him speedy recovery.”
