LIVE UPDATES: 5 soldiers killed in Pak shelling, 6 civilians also dead

The Indian army on Friday lost four of its soldiers as Pakistan indulged in heavy cross-border shelling along the Line of Control (LoC). The cross-border shelling by Pakistan also left a BSF sub-inspector dead. Also killed in the border skirmishes were six civilians. Indian troops, according to news agency PTI, killed 8 Pakistani soldiers in retaliatory firing.

Srinagar-based defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia was quoted as saying, “Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation along the LoC spread across multiple sectors to include Dawar, Keran, Uri and Naugam. Four Indian Army soldiers have been killed in action and three soldiers injured.”

According to officials, two civilians were killed in Kamalkote sector, also in Uri, while a woman was killed in Balkote area in Haji Peer sector.

The Indian army released several videos of damages caused by its atatck targeting Pakistani installations.
