Leakage at IGI airport not radioactive: AERB

The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board and the Delhi government have said that the leakage at the IGI airport in Delhi was not of radioactive nature.

The AERB stated, “Organic liquid from another consignment spilled over the cargo carried by Turkish airlines; no radioactive substance involved.”

Earlier on Friday, a radioactive leak was reported at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) anti-sabotage team was rushed to the spot to monitor the situation. The consignment of sodium iodine allegedly came from Istanbul for Fortis Hospital whose authorities were notified duly about the same.

With regard to the matter, Minister of Home Affairs, Rajnath Singh was reported saying that the leakage at cargo complex in IGI Airport had been plugged.
