Twitter has been abuzz with intense conversation over the BJP’s choice of Uttar Pradesh’s new chief minister in Gorakhpur MP, Yogi Adityanath.
Adityanath, an unapologetic proponent of militant Hindutva and anti-Muslim politics, took oath of office as the state’s 21st chief minister on Sunday.
Journalists and prominent social media users were quick to express their shock and disgust over the saffron party’s decision to opt for an individual, who’s been notorious for his divisive politics.
BJP leaders sparred with their rivals, who took potshot at the BJP for being exposed on its much-touted claims of so-called development and inclusive politics.
The party’s senior functionary in Bihar and the state’s former deputy chief minister, Sushil Modi taunted the RJD chief, Lalu Prasad Yadav, with his tweet.
His tweet said,”You are so much in deep mourning because of Yogi becoming the chief minister that can’t even decide on the choice of abuses.”
To which, Lalu, known for his wit, tweeted, “You should also get your ears pierced, head shaven, robes changed. Perhaps this will help your cause. Don’t be sad. These people didn’t even invite you to the swearing in ceremony.”

Both Lalu and Modi have been sworn political rivals in Bihar. Their war of words have continued even after the BJP suffered a defeat in the assembly elections in 2015.
