Lalu Yadav’s tweet causes storm on alliance with Nitish

The RJD chief and former Bihar chief minister, Lalu Yadav, on Tuesday caused a political storm of sorts after his cryptic tweet was widely interpreted as a sign to break his alliance with Nitish Kumar.

Lalu’s tweet said, “Congratulations BJP on new alliance partners. Neither will Lalu Prasad bow nor be scared. I will continue to fight the fascist forces until my last breath.”

Within minutes his tweet went viral as social media users began to draw inference on whether by new ‘alliance partners,’ Lalu had hinted at the Bihar chief minister and the JDU leader, Nitish Kumar.

However, just moments later, Lalu clarified that he wasn’t hinting at Nitish Kumar and his alliance with the JDU was intact.

He wrote, “Don’t wag your tongue. Our alliance is unbreakable. We have to add more parties with common ideologies. I am not scared of the BJP-run government machinery and other allies.”

The Income Tax department on Tuesday had conducted raids and surveys on at least 22 locations in Delhi and adjoining areas on charges of alleged benami deals worth Rs 1,000 crore linked to RJD chief Lalu Prasad and others.

This came after the Bihar chief minister had reportedly said that the central government could investigate Lalu’s benami properties if it had the proof against him.

Lalu warned the Centre’s Narendra Modi government that if it tried to crush him, thousand more ‘Lalus’ will rise from across the country.

Lalu’s party, the RJD, had won a landslide in 2015 assembly polls in alliance with the JDU and the Congress party. Two of his son, Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav are cabinet ministers in the state government. While Tejashwi holds the deputy chief minister’s post, Tej Pratap is the health minister in Nitish’s cabinet.
