Thousands of people gathered at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan to attend the “Desh Bachao, BJP Bhagao” rally organised by the Rashtriya Janata Dal on Sunday.
Among those, who attended the rally, were JDU’s Sharad Yadav, West Bengal chief minister, Mamata Banerjee, Ghulam Nabi Azad of Congress, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, RJD supremo, Lalu Prasad Yadav and his sons Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav.
Rebel JD-U leader Sharad Yadav shared a stage for the first time with RJD chiefignoring the JD-U’s warning not to attend it.
JD-U leaders including General Secretary KC Tyagi and party spokesperson Neeraj Kumar had declared that Sharad Yadav has now joined hands with the ‘corrupt’ and that the JD-U led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will act against him.
Before coming to attend the rally, Sharad Yadav told the media that he was with the Grand Alliance and his JD-U was real JD-U, reported news agency IANS.
“Let us wait for one or two months. I will publicly prove it that the JD-U is our party,” he said.
However, minutes after the the speakers began to address the rally, a social media controversy erupted. This was after Lalu posted a tweet with an image claiming an unprecedented turnout of crowd at the venue.
Lau’s tweet read, “No “Face” will stand in front of Lalu’s “Base”. Come & Count as much as u can in Gandhi Maidan, Patna

Moments later, social media users particularly those sympathetic to the BJP, alleged that the photo tweeted by Lalu was fake and the size of the crowd was exaggerated.
The photos and video tweeted by news agency ANI too had thinner crowd at the venue prompting the social media users to take a dig at the organisers of anti-BJP rally.
