Kiren Rijiju responded to Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi’s  remark on beef ban by calling it ‘unpalatable’, as reported by The Indian Express.

“I eat beef, I’m from Arunachal Pradesh, can somebody stop me? So let us not be touchy about somebody’s practices,” said Rijiju during his visit to Aizawl on Tuesday. He further added, “This is a democratic country. Sometimes, some statements are made which are not palatable.”

Rijiju’s colleague in Modi’s cabinet, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi had made a statement that those who were “dying” to eat beef should leave for Pakistan.

Taking a dig at Rijiju’s statement, Congress Spokesperson Shakkel Ahmed tweeted: ‘Modi govt’s Mos Home and BJP leader Kiran Rijiju says”I eat beef”.When Mr Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi is sending his own minister to Pakistan?’

Calling the remarks by Naqvi ‘not good’, Rijiju later added that the Minister (Naqvi) was using his right to freedom and expression.
