Police in Tamul Nadu say that the burnt body found by them on Friday could be of the Kerala missing college student Jesna Maria James. A special team of Kerala Police searching for the 20-year-old missing college student from Pathanamthitta district, arrived in Kancheepuram on Friday evening.
A report by Times of India said that officers investigating the case in Tamil Nadu had confirmed that a preliminary autopsy report of the body recovered by the state police on Monday indicated that she had been burned alive. The woman’s body was found at Chengalpattu highway in Kancheepuram district, around 50 kms from Chennai.
“The body appears to match photographs of the missing student from Kerala. The Pathanamthitta police arrived in Kancheepuram to check if it is the body of Jesna James. We know that she wore braces, like the missing student,” an officer was quoted by ToI.
The officer said that his team was waiting for the Kerala police to confirm the identity of the victim adding that the ‘body found in Chengalpet had a nose stud but the Kerala police said Jesna did not wear a nose stud.’ Tamil Nadu police also discovered some burned clothes in a suitcase, but the Kerala Police had reported said that Jesna did not carry anything when she left her home in March.
Meanwhile, Kancheepuram Superintendent of Police said that the body’s face was not entirely recognisable adding that it had been shifted to Changalpattu Medical College Hospital.
“But nothing has been confirmed so far, but we decided to inform the Kerala police since the body had braces of the teeth and the general physique was similar to Jesna’s. The DNA test could only say whether it was Jessna ,” a website quoted the SP as saying.
Jesna was a BCom student of St Dominic’s College in Kanjirappally. She had gone missing on 22 March, while she was on her way to her aunt’s house in the neighbouring Kottayam district. Her relatives said that she had called an aunt who lived in Punchavayal stating that she was on her way to her house. That was the last time she had spoken to anyone.
