Delhi government has decided to offer an appropriate job to Rohith Vemula’s brother ‘as and when he applies for the same.’
The Delhi cabinet met on Wednesday to arrive at the decision.
The cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, agreed to consider Rohit’s mother’s demand.
This came after the family members and friends of Hyderabad University scholar met Kejriwal at his residence on Wednesday (24 February) morning.
Late Rohith’s mother, Radhika, had requested Kejriwal to provide a government job to his younger brother, since the family did not have any source of income.
There are also reports that Radhika and other family members will soon relocate themselves o Delhi.
Kejriwal had on Tuesday joined a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar in support of Rohith accusing the Narendra Modi government of waging a “war” against students and voiced his support for ‘Rohith Act.’
This was proposed by the protesting students to check discrimination in universities.
On Tuesday, Radhika, had attacked Modi asking what action he had taken against his ministers, who called her son ‘anti-national.’
She was referring to Bandaru Dattatreya and the Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani, both of whom had stepped up pressure through series of letters to the VC directing him to take action against Rohith and his friends for ‘anti-national activities.
Irani, on Wednesday, adopted a compassionate tone while talking about Rohith in the parliament. She said that opposition was trying to do ‘politics’ using a ‘child.’
This U-turn in her stand was widely mocked by many on social media.
