The Congress in Karnataka on Tuesday found itself rocked by internal war as senior leader Roshan Baig launched a tirade against the state leadership including former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Baig singled out AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal a ‘buffoon’ adding that he felt sorry for his leader and Congress President Rahul Gandhi.
“KC Venugopal is a buffoon. I feel sorry for my leader Rahul Gandhi ji. Buffoons like Venugopal, the arrogant attitude of Siddaramaiah & the flop show of Gundu Rao…The result is this,” Baig was quoted by news agency ANI.
Baig also alleged that the Congress leadership had not given any seats to Christians and only one seat was given to Muslims in Karnataka. The only Muslim candidate fighting the Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka was Rizwan Arshad from Bengal Central. Baig said, “I’m upset with this, we have been used.”
Baig, who held a cabinet post in the Siddaramaiah government, also alleged that portfolios in Karnataka were sold for money. He said that holding Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy responsible was wrong since ‘he wasn’t allowed to function.’ “From day one Siddaramaiah said ‘I’m going to be CM’.You’ve gone to their doorstep to form govt!” ANI quoted him as saying. Baig said that KPCC chief Dinesh Gundu Rao former CM Siddaramaiah must be blamed if the Congress did not do well in Karnataka.
Terming Baig’s attack as his personal opinion, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara said that KC Venugopal, who’s also the in-charge of Karnataka within the AICC, was expected to arrive in Bengaluru on Tuesday to ‘discuss our options with senior leaders’ after the results are out on 23 May.
Congress MLC and Lok Sabha candidate from Bengaluru Central Rizwan Arshad called Baig ‘opportunist’ and said, “If he has guts let him resign&contest from BJP. If Congress is such a bad party which gave him power for last 10 yrs&made him MLA for last 4 terms let him resign&contest from BJP. Let’s see what happens in Shivajinagara.”
Meanwhile, Kumaraswamy, who was scheduled to travel to Delhi has cancelled his plans for undisclosed reasons. His plane for Delhi to take off from the HAL airport in Bengaluru on Tuesday. However, it’s now being cancelled, said several media reports.
