Actor Kareena Kapoor had to face plenty of grief from her detractors and feminist groups, who were upset with the Veere Di Wedding actor’s remarks on feminism. Speaking at a promotional event, Kareena had said, “I am not a feminist; I believe in equality.”
Her comments earned her criticism from feminist groups and her detractors. But she also received support on social media.

Oh man. So Kareena Kapoor said that she believes in equality but is not a feminist.
How disappointing that she doesn’t know that true feminism stands for equality and nothing else! Tch tch

I am really proud on #KareenaKapoorKhan today. Kareena addressed the REAL meaning of #Feminism, in today’s date. What you idiots are fighting over is Oxford dictionary. There is no equality in today’s date.
Mrs Khan, I stand with you?. #Bravo #IBelieveInEqualityOfGenders ?

Far from being fazed by the trolls’ criticism, Kareena defended her statement, “What was wrong in the feminism statement? I’d still say that I believe in equality and there’s nothing wrong in it. Most people think that feminism means male bashing and it makes women superior.”
“That’s what they’ve always meant, otherwise, why would they be fighting on Twitter every time. However, I would also like to add, that in a way, I am a bit of a feminist but I am a feminist in the right way. I’m not trying to say that men are lesser because they are not. I believe it takes two to tango in any kind of a relationship. But then, main kuch bhi statement bolun, trolls toh shuru ho jate hain (whatever I say, trolling will start), especially when it comes to feminism,” she was quoted by several media outlets.
On being trolled for her dress sense, Kareena slammed her critics by raising questions on the definition of the motherly dressing. Speaking to Mid-Day, Kareena said, “One should wear what they look good in. I don’t know what’s motherly dressing. My mom [Babita] wears modern clothes, she looks fabulous in jeans and a top. Have you seen my mother-in-law [Sharmila Tagore]? She looks gorgeous in a pair of jeans and a shirt, just as much as she does in a silk saree. I come from a world where women wear what they want to. Just because I have had a baby doesn’t mean I can’t wear a short dress. If you have the confidence and the body to pull off something, wear it by all means.”
Kareena recently made a comeback with Veere Di Wedding, which is set to become a new blockbuster at the box office after the film, which also stars Sonam Kapoor and Swara Bhaskar, collected nearly Rs 60 crore within four days of being released.
