Thursday will be the last day of campaigning for Punjab elections, where Aam Aadmi Party is desperately seeking to wrest the power from the ruling Akali Dal and BJP combine. On Wednesday, Arvind Kejriwal-led party received a significant boost after popular comedian and actor, Kapil Sharma, extended his support to AAP’s Punjab convenor, Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi.
Sharma’s support assumes significance because this is the first time the host of Sony TV’s Kapil Sharma Show has thrown his weight behind any politician during an election.
In his video appeal, Sharma is seen as urging Punjabi voters to support Ghuggi because the latter’s success will be the success of people of Punjab.
He said, “I have never campaigned for any political party but always held that all of us must vote for a deserving candidate. Gurpreet is an honest person with a good thinking and sensible frame of mind.
“To work for the development of your constituency and the state, you must vote for a good candidate. He’s a person who wants to work for the people and bring significant changes to their lives. I urge you all to vote for Gurpeet Singh Waraich.”
Punjab goes to polls in single phase on 4 February and AAP is facing stiff competition from Congress to form government in the state.
