Justice Arun Mishra on Monday reportedly broke down during the informal meeting held by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra with the judges of the Supreme Court, reported IANS.
The reason why Justice Arun Mishra reportedly broke down was because, as the news agency reported, he felt the four senior most judges had “unfairly” targeted him questioning his “competence” and “integrity.”
The news of Justice Mishra breaking down was only reported by the IANS with no other media sourcing confirming this development.
The IANS report further quoted Justice Mishra as saying that ‘though his name was not mentioned by the four judges, inferences have been drawn from the cases referred to by the four judges including that of late CBI special court judge B. H. Loya.’
Justice Mishra reportedly also said that had been working hard and was overburdened adding that even earlier the former Chief Justices TS Thakur and JS Khehar had assigned him tough cases.
Noted lawyer Dushyant Dave on Sunday had made stunning allegations that Justice Mishra had links with BJP leaders.
Justice Mishra was assigned the case of Judge BH Loya’s mysterious death case. This decision by CJI Misra had reportedly prompted the four judges to take extraordinary step and speak to media about their grievances.
Judge Loya had died under mysterious circumstances at a time when he was presiding over the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case, where BJP President Amit Shah was a key accused.
There are reports that Justice Arun Mishra will hear the petition on Judge Loya’s death on Tuesday.
In another development, a lawyer RP Luthra in a mentioning before Court Number One headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra said that there was “a conspiracy to destroy the institution” and urged the Chief Justice to take action against the four judges.
But the CJI Misra only smiled and remained silent.
Earlier on Monday Attorney General KK Venugopal was quoted by NDTV as saying that “everything has been settled.”
Elsewhere, the four judges, who questioned the way politically sensitive cases were being assigned to relatively junior judges, attended the court and took up the routine work. The judges were Justices J Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, Madan B Lokur and Kurian Joseph. These judges are the four senior most judges after CJI Misra.
Justice Mishra dominated the social media conversation for several days now with users poking fun at him.
