In another incident of how incompetent teachers in Jammu and Kashmir are, at least 17 highly qualified teachers of two government schools have failed to answer basic questions related subjects they teach.
A class 10 biology teacher failed to name the parts of digestive system, while another teacher, who hold Masters in Science and Education didn’t know what fossil fuel was.
This was after the Deputy Commissioner of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir decided to conduct an education audit of the schools.
Deputy Commissioner Shahid Iqbal Choudhary told PTI, “I asked the students of the Government City High School what fossil fuel was and they failed to answer it. Then I posed the same question to their science teacher who holds masters degrees in science and education. He replied fossil fuel is the waste material we throw out of our house.”
Choudhary said 17 teachers of the school failed to give a “satisfactory” answer to the questions posed by him.
He said that in government Girls High School which has staff strength of 18 for only 86 students the level of education and learning was found far below average expectancy.
Last year, the government of Jammu and Kashmir had ordered screening test for ReT teachers currently working at various state schools.
In May 2015, Jammu and Kashmir High Court had asked one ReT teacher to write an essay on cow in which he failed. Taking strong cognisance, the court had then ordered scrutiny of degrees and screening test of all ReT teachers working at government schools.
