Women ‘given arms training’ at RSS’ Jammu camp, Congress slam the ‘illegal’ act

Women participants at the RSS’ recent camp in Jammu were given lesson on operating rifles as part weapons training.

This comes after the widespread controversy over the Bajrang Dal carrying out similar initiative in the poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.

The RSS’ 14-day camp concluded in Jammu on Sunday.

All India Chief Organiser of the RSS, Shanta Kumari was quoted by Greater Kashmir website as saying that women will be more productive for family, society and the nation if they recognised their power and utilised it properly.

She said that it was necessary to adopt the ideas of “our ancestors.”

The arms training camp for women had reportedly started 19 June with girls being given lessons in physical security, yoga, punishment, health, disaster management and patriotism.

Jammu and Kashmir is currently being governed by BJP, whose ideological member is the RSS, and PDP alliance.

Opposition Congress has already launched an attack against the Jammu and Kashmir government accusing the RSS of diving the people in the valley.

Congress’ Salman Nizami said, “Jammu has been a symbol of communal harmony & brotherhood since time immemorial. But, perhaps, not any longer. RSS is making every effort to put the Hindus against the Muslims, & they are also attempting to revise the very tenet of Hinduism from one of tolerance to that of rabid inclusivity.

The holding of arms training camps by RSS is an illegal act & the state govt should immediately ban them besides initiating strong action against those organising them.”

  1. While it may not be any problem to give arms training to the women for self protection under normal circumstances, the circumstances in the J & K State are not normal. Hence, this is an ill advised action by the RSS and may cause avoidable retaliation in the J & K State.
