Supreme Court on Thursday allowed the Italian marines Salvatore Girone to return to Italy.
News agency ANI reported that SC was hearing a plea from Girone, who sought relaxation of bail conditions to enable him to return to Italy.
The apex court allowed the marine’s with certain conditions paving way for his return to Itali.
According to ABP News, the central government did not oppose the plea.
Girone and another Italian marine Massimiliano Latorre are facing charges of murdering two fishermen in 2012 off the Kerala coast.
Latorre is already back in Italy.
The central government not opposing the plea of Italian marine assumes significance in light of Modi’s sustained attacks against the UPA government over the same issue.
In 2014, he had said, “”Sonia Gandhi should answer the people on who helped the two Italian marines get safe passage from India after killing two fishermen in Kerala. I want to ask: who or what power sent them back to Italy and asking them not to be brought back. Should they (marines) not be in jail in India?”
