India on Sunday beat Australia by five wickets with all-rounder Hardik Pandya once again rising to the occasion with a quick 78-run knock off 72 balls. With this win the hosts also clinched the five-match series against the Aussies.
Batting first Australia had amassed a total of 293 for six wickets in the 50 overs with opener Aaron Finch playing a brilliant knock of 124. Australia, however, lost the plot after Finch returned to dressing room. the visitors were 232 for 2 in 40 overs when Finch got out. They could only add 61 runs in the remaining 10 overs while losing four wickets.
Chasing 294 for a win, India overhauled the target with 13 balls to spare in front of a packed Holkar stadium to take a series-clinching 3-0 lead.
Openers Rohit Sharma scored 71 and Ajikya Rahane 70 to set the platform for the win with their 131-run partnership.
The remaining two ODIs will be played on 28 September and 1 October.
