Tamil Nadu’s Anukreethy Vas was on Tuesday night crowned as the new Miss India, while while first runner-up was Meenakshi Chaudhary from Haryana and Shreya Rao from Andhra Pradesh was adjudged the second runner-up.
Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar passed on the crown to her successor 19-year-old Anukreethy at the star-studded grand finale, held at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Indoor Stadium.
A student of Chennai’s Loyola College, pursuing BA in French to become an interpreter, Anukreethy was raised by a single mother, reported IANS adding that she completed her schooling from RSK Higher Secondary School. The new Miss India said that she wanted to become a super model since she loved facing the camera.
A glance at Anukreethy’s social media account gives one an impression that she’s an incredibly confident individual and not body shy. One of her recent photos posted on Instagram carried the caption, “Never be afraid to be your own self.”
The event was hosted by Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar and actor Ayushmann Khurrana as Jacqueline Fernandez set the stage on fire by shaking a leg to Desi Girl.
Madhuri Dixit too was at her best when performed including humming a few lines from her latest Marathi release Bucket List during an interaction with the hosts. Kareena Kapoor Khan too performed on Tareefa from her latest released film Veere Di Wedding.
Anukreethy Vas will now represent India at Miss World 2018 while the two runners-up will represent the country at Miss Grand International 2018 and Miss United Continents 2018 respectively.
Last year’s Miss India Manushi Chhillar had made India proud by winning the coveted Miss World title in China. She’s since been travelling around the world representing India. It remains to be seen if Anukreethy can emulate her predecessor’s feat.
The new Miss India had posted the above photo on Instagram in 2016, when she was 17 of herself with her Mom, who has played a significant role in raising her to become a confident model that she’s today. She’s has posted just 90 photos on Instagram up until now and has little over 40,000 followers. After her last night’s achievement, this is all set to change significantly.
