In a separate case of robbery, four convicts of December 16 gang rape gets 10 year jail


In a separate case of robbery, Patiala House Court on Wednesday sentenced four convicts of 16 December gang rape to 10 years in jail. The four convicts before committing the gang rape were involved in a separate case of robbery the very same day.

The court convicted them under various charges of dacoity, kidnapping, wrongfully confining any person, attempting to commit robbery and dishonestly receiving stolen property knowing that it was obtained by dacoity.

The four gang rape convicts Vinay Sharma, Akshay Thakur, Mukesh and Pawan Gupta were being tried for allegedly beating up and robbing carpenter Ram Adhar before raping the 23-yr-old medical student in a moving bus on 16 December 2012.

A trial court has already given death sentence to all four convicts for committing the rape. The death sentence has been confirmed by the Delhi High Court and the matter is now pending in the Supreme Court.
