Days after celebrity hair stylist, Jawed Habib, issued a video apology for inadvertently hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus, an angry mob on Saturday vandalised one of his salons in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district.
The attackers were reportedly enraged over over the use of Hindu gods’ caricature in one of his advertisements placed in Kolkata newspaper.
Police said the mob was led by workers of the Hindu Jagran Manch, who attacked the beauty salon in Motinagar in the district neighbouring the state capital. As the mob vent its ire on the salon, some customers were trapped inside, reported IANS.
The activists of the Hindu outfit also threatened the owner to wind up his business or face consequences, following which a police complaint was filed. A police team visited the salon and took some eyewitness account of the attack.
Habib had earlier asked for unconditional apology for an ad published in Kolkata hurting the religious sentiments of many Hindus on social media.
The celebrity hair stylist was trolled with many even asking for police action after the ad published in a Bengali newspaper, promoted his hair salon, for the upcoming Durga Puja.
In the controversial ad, Goddess Durga was having a spa day.
The Goddess, along with her children Kartik, Lakshmi, Saraswati and Ganesh, in the print ad, were seen at the Habib’s beauty parlour, while the tag read- ‘Gods too visit JH salon’.
Reacting to criticism, Habib posted a video apology clarifying that the ad was commissioned by Jawed Habib’s partner in Kolkata and no prior permission was sought from him.
