The news of Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel’s son being refused to board a plane because he was heavily drunk has set the social media on fire.
According to an IANS report, Jaiman Patel was stopped from boarding a Qatar Airways flight early on Monday after he arrived in a “heavily drunken” state and argued with the staff at the airport.
The news agency further reported that Jaiman Patel- in his mid-30s- along with wife Jhalak and daughter Vaishvi were stopped from boarding the Greece-bound plane, which was scheduled to take-off at 4am.
“Jaimin Patel was prevented from boarding the flight. He also had an argument with the staff of the airways,” said one official.
The dominating theme of the social media conversation around Gujarat being a dry state and whether a person as responsible as the son the of the state’s deputy chief minister had broken any laws.
Another report said that the young Patel was so drunk that he could not even walk. He was, however, able to clear the migration and other security checks in a wheelchair due to his inebriated condition.
An embarrassed deputy chief minister later addressed the media and said that there was an attempt to defame him.
He aid, “My son, his wife and daughter were going for a vacation. He was not feeling well. His wife called up home and then it was decided to return home and not proceed. Our opponents are trying to tarnish our image by spreading false and mischievous information.”
