A BJP MLA from Haryana has caused embarrassment for her own party by linking the rise in rape cases in Haryana to the growing frustration among youth due to unemployment.
Haryana, Premlata Singh, BJP MLA from Uchana Kalan, blamed ‘frustration’ among unemployed youths as the reason for rapes in the country, reported PTI.
“The frustration that has crept into the minds of our youths is one of the reasons behind such incidents (rapes). Youths who are frustrated, unemployed and unsure of their future commit such heinous acts,” the BJP MLA, whose husband Birender Singh is a union minister in Narendra Modi’s cabinet the Centre, was quoted as saying.
She added, “A wrong tradition has started in our society…Men develop bad intentions when they see a woman anywhere.”
Singh made her observation while commenting on the gang-rape of a 19-year-old CBSE topper in Haryana’s Rewari district. Haryana has the BJP government with Manohar Lal Khattar as its chief minister.
The police on Saturday said that one of the accused in the gang-rape of the CBSE topper was an army soldier. Meanwhile, the victim’s father has accused a local woman ‘SP’ of first refusing to accept his complaint while ‘throwing away’ his complaint papers.
he victim, a second-year student, was on her way to the coaching when she was attacked a group of men, who dragged her to a nearby field and took turns in raping her. All the rapists, according the girl, are from her village.
