Cop commits suicide in Ghaziabad

An Uttar Pradesh Police constable, posted in Meerut city, committed suicide in his house in Ghaziabad on Monday morning, police said.

His family said he was under depression and undergoing treatment.

Himashu Sharma, 27, hung himself to death from the ceiling fan in his family house in Defence Colony area of Murad Nagar.

His mother Saroj Bala said that on Monday morning, he had returned from a morning walk and went up to his room.

She added, “We thought he might have gone to prepare for duty but when he did not return for quite a long time, I reached his room where I found him hanging from the ceiling. We brought him down and rushed him to a local hospital where doctors declared him dead. He was suffering from depression and he was under treatment from a local doctor. No new development is in our knowledge. He seemed normal from outside.”

Superintendent, Rural, R.P. Pandey said that a case has been registered and the body has been sent for post-mortem. The Meerut police has been apprised of his death, he added.

Police said Sharma lived with his wife, daughter and mother and used to commute to work daily.
