Hardline Hurriyat Chairman Geelani arrested for defying restrictions

Chairman of Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Monday arrested by police after he tried to defy restrictions and march towards Anantnag district of south Kashmir.

Geelani was arrested by police at New Airport Roadm outside his Humhama residence, a Hurriyat spokesman said.

The separatists had called for a march to Anantnag district, which has seen highest number of deaths in the ongoing unrest in the Valley.

Geelani tried to march towards Anantnag and participate in a rally to be held at Lal Chowk there to express solidarity with people,  the spokesman said.

Later he was taken to police station Humhama. Pertinently resistance leadership had asked people to move towards south Kashmir’s Anantnag (Islamabad) district and participate in a rally to be held at Lal Chowk there after the Zuhar (afternoon) prayers to express solidarity with people there and pay tributes to the recent martyrs.
