The Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested international golfer Jyoti Randhawa for alleged poaching in Motipur Range of Katerniaghat in Bahraich. Police have also seized his vehicle, a red SUV, weapon (.22 rifle) and other equipment.
The DFO Katerniaghat has said that the interrogation and further legal action was being taken against Randhawa and his aide, one Mahesh Virajdar.
“Jyoti Singh Randhawa and Mahesh Virajdar (who accompanied him) have been arrested in a poaching case in Motipur range of Katerniaghat,”Ramesh Pandey, field director at Dudhwa Tiger Reserve was quoted by NDTV.
Pandey added, “A vehicle, weapon and other equipment along with wildlife articles have been seized.
46-year-old Randhawa was among the top 100 golfers internationally between 2004 and 2009. A resident of Gurgaon near Delhi, Randhawa has recently started shooting and took part in several shooting events. He was married to Bollywood actress Chitrangada Singh but the couple split in 2014.
Son of an armyman, Randhawa grew up in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. After he turned professional in 1994, Randhawa has gone on to win eight titles on the Asian Tour including Hero Honda Masters, Wills Indian Open, SIngapore Open, Volvo Masters of Asia , Hero Honda Indian Open and Singha Thailand Open.
