Controversial BJP leader Giriraj Singh has come up with a new gem. In his latest controversial statement, the motormouth MP from Bihar has suggested fixing two-sons norm for Muslims to ensure safety for Hindu daughters.
Singh said that if India did not change its population policy by enforcing a two-child norm for all religions, “daughters will not be safe and might have to be kept under the veil, like in Pakistan.”
Quoting the saffron party MP, Indian Express reported, “Hindu ka do beta ho aur Musalmaan ko bhi do hi beta hona chahiye. Hamaari aabadi ghat rahi hai. Bihar mein saat zila aisa hai jahan hamaari jansankhya ghat rahi hai. Jansankhya niyantran ke niyam ko badalna hoga, tabhi hamaari betiyaan surakshit rahengi. Nahi toh hamein bhi Pakistan ki tarah apni betiyon ko parde mein band karna hoga (Hindus should have two sons, Muslims, too, should have two sons. Our population is coming down. Bihar has seven such districts where our population has gone down. Population rules have to be changed, only then will our daughters be safe. Otherwise, like Pakistan, we too will have to keep our daughters under the veil.”
Speaking at a cultural yatra in Bagaha, West Champaran, where the audience comprised several sadhus and RSS workers, Singh told the audience that they would “lose Bharatvarsha” if the population policy was not reworked immediately.
Singh is not new to controversy or making hateful speeches. In the run up to 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he had asked those not wanting to vote for Narendra Modi to go to Pakistan.
Last year, he was caught on camera making racist remarks about former Indian prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and Congress president Sonia Gandhi. He had said that if Rajiv Gandhi married a “Nigerian” woman instead of the “fair-skinned” Sonia Gandhi, the Congress party would not have accepted her as its leader.
