Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir will be the BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from East Delhi parliamentary constituency. He will lock horns with Arvinder Singh Lovely of the Congress and Atishi Marlena of the Aam Aadmi Party.
Gambhir, who recently joined the BJP, has replaced the sitting BJP MP Maheish Girri. The BJP on Monday also released the name of Meenakshi Lekhi from New Delhi parliamentary constituency. She will be pitted against Ajay Maken of the Congress and Brijesh Goyal of the AAP.
The BJP announcing the names of its candidates followed the Congress announcing the names of six of its candidates earlier on Monday. They included former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit being fielded from Delhi North East constituency against BJP’s Manoj Tiwari.
The BJP also had to face a revolt of sort on Monday after its sitting MP Udit Raj took to Twitter to protest against being left out by the party. He tagged BJP President Amit Shah publicly and accused him of reneging on his promise to field him once again in this year’s elections.
