Alleged involvement of six youth Congress leaders in the gang-rape of a 22-year old in Nagaon district of Assam under Samuguri police station has sent ripples across the state. But, what came as a shocker is Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Anjan Dutta has been caught completely unaware about the incident.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a youth congress meeting in Rajiv Bhawan, Guwahati, Dutta said, “I am completely devoid of any knowledge about the incident. I came across the news only from the press personnel here.”
Also replying to a telephonic query from Jantakareporter.com, the congress leader and former minster Ripun Bora too maintained the same.
“I don’t have any information pertaining to the incident and only after confirming I will be able make any comments,” added Bora.
According to Binod Dihingia, officer-in-charge, Samuguri police station, since nobody from the victim’s family has arrived as of now, so she is still under the custody of police.
On Tuesday, Samaguri police rescued the girl from an abandoned area in critical condition and admitted her to Nagaon civil hospital, where medical tests confirmed rape.
According to the victim, one Mukesh Hussain an alleged Samuguri youth congress leader who happened to be an acquaintance of the victim called her up to a nearby dhaba for a birthday bash. Later on, Hussain along with his friends allegedly gang-raped her in a Hyundai Eon car owned by another congress leader Abdul Kadir.
Though the culprits are yet to be nabbed, Samuguri police informed that search was on and they were leaving no stone unturned to arrest every single person involved.
Meanwhile the local residents of the area have not only condemned the incident but also criticized the authorities for their inability to put the culprits behind the bars.
A local resident said, “Abdul Kadir is known for his notoriety in the entire area, we are shocked that the police is yet to nab him, thus we would request the police to immediately arrest the criminals,” said a local”
