Former army havaldar arrested in Rajasthan’s Pokhran for links with ISI


A joint operation by Rajasthan’s Anti-Teerorist Squad with its Uttar Pradesh counterpart on Sunday achieved a major breakthrough when they arrested a former Army personnel for allegedly spying for the Pakistan’s ISI.

Reports suggests that the man, identified as Patwari Gordhan Singh, was arrested from Jaisalmer near Army base. He has been taken to Pokhran police station for questioning.

Authorities said that Patwari was arrested for his alleged “spying and anti-national activities” in Pokharan tehsil close to the international border in Jaisalmer district, a top police officer said.

Patwari, ex-army Havildar, was detained in joint operation in Pokharan tehsil, Rajasthan’s ATS and SOG Additional Director General of Police Alok Tripathi told PTI.

Tripathi added that Patwari Gordhan was being interrogated by intelligence agencies including ATS of Uttar Pradesh, ATS Rajasthan.

His arrest assumes significance because of the sensitivity attached to Pokharan in view of nuclear explosion I and II, the ex-army Havildar was detained for his suspicious role and alleged spying activities under “official secret act”, the ADG said.

This arrest comes barely few weeks after a special task force in Kolkata had arrested a man suspected to be spying for Pakistan and other countries.

Saikh Badal (59) was arrested by the STF in the afternoon from near the Regional Passport Office in Kolkata.

He has been charged with several offences, including waging or attempting to wage war against the country, said an STF officer.
