Five AAP leaders summoned for questioning in Ganjendra Singh’s suicide case


Delhi police will grill five leaders of Aam Aadmi Party members in connection with the death of farmer Gajendra Singh at a party rally at Jantar Mantar last year.

“Senior AAP leaders Sanjay Singh, Ashish Khaitan, Kumar Vishwas, Punjab MP Bhagwant Mann and a volunteer identified as Neeraj Kumar, were served notices under section 60 of CrPC in the past two days,” PTI quoted a senior police officer as saying.

These AAP leaders have been directed to to join the investigation in the case at the R K Puram, Sector 8, office of Crime Branch today.

The officer said the police have prepared a detailed questionnaire which they will be asked to respond to.

On 22 April, Gajendra Singh, a farmer from Rajasthan, had allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree while the AAP was holding a rally at Jantar Mantar.

The police had registered a case under Sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 306 (abetment of suicide) against several unnamed persons at the Parliament Street police station.

Later, the case was transferred to Delhi Police’s Crime Branch.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has repeatedly denied allegations that the his party leaders did not do enough to save the farmer.
