Haryana assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a Bill promising reservation for Jats and other communities in the state.
This came weeks after Jats took to streets to launch violent protests across the state causing damage worth thousands of crores. Their agitation had also seen at least two dozens deaths in Haryana.
However, the BJP MP from Rajkumar Saini on Tuesday openly defied the saffron party’s line and slammed the passing of the Bill promising quota for Jats.
Known for his provocative statements against the Jats, Saini called it a ‘murder of democracy’ as reported by news agency ANI.
As reported by jantakareporter.com in February, Saini had last year described the Jats ‘suwar ke bachche (children of swine) while addressing a rally.
Saini had said,, “dekho aap ka paksh liya Bhim Rao Ambedkar ne, Parliament mein nahi jaane diya suwar ke bachchon ne,… aur jab Ram Manohar Lohia aaye to en suwar weeron ne Ram Manohar Lohia ko bhi parliament ki dehleez nahi dekhne di. (Look, Bhim Rao Ambedkar took you side and you didn’t let him go to the parliament. And when Ram Manohar Lohia came, then these sons of a swine didn’t let him enter the gate of the parliament.)”
Meanwhile, the Pioneer reported that Congress leader and former minister Ajay Singh Yadav too described the passage of the bill as a “black day” for Haryana.
The government for its part said, “The bill will give statutory status to Backward classes Block ‘A’, Backward classes Block ‘B’ and Backward classes Block ‘C’ by enacting the Haryana Backward Classes (Reservation in Services and Admission in Educational Institutions) Act, 2016, and request the Central Government to include this Act in the 9th Schedule read with Article 31B of the Constitution of India.”
