A Delhi court has sentences 5 persons, including 4 MCD officials, to 4-year jail term each in CWG street lighting scam case.
According to the news agency ANI, the main accused, TP Singh has been sentenced to 6 years in jail. Other accused were given 4 years in jail.
Reacting to the verdict, the defence lawyer, Amardeep Singh, said, “we have to move an appeal to suspend the sentence.”
What was the first conviction in the CWG scam took place on Monday after four Delhi municipal corporation officials and two directors of a private company were convicted by a special CBI court investigating the Commonwealth Games street-lighting scam.
The charges filed against the convicts include criminal conspiracy, forgery and cheating.
These four MCD officials include former superintendent engineer D K Sugan, executive engineer O P Mahala, accountant Raju V and tender clerk Gurcharan Singh while the convicted directors are the director of Sweka Power Tech Engineers Pvt Ltd J P Singh and managing director T P Singh.
The argument for the quantum of punishment for these six convicts, who were also booked under sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, had begun in the special court of Judge Brijesh Garg on Tuesday.
