ED conducts searches in connection with cases against Chhagan Bhujbal


The ED conducted searches at multiple locations in and around Mumbai in connection with two cases registered against former Maharashtra minister Chhagan Bhujbal.

Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate has registered two cases against former Maharashtra PWD minister Chhagan Bhujbal under Prevention of Money Laundering Act

The Anti-Corruption Bureau in Maharashtra had registered an FIR against former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal in Maharashtra Sadan scam, after a case was registered against him in allotment of land in Kalina in Mumbai. Bhujbal was a Public Works Department minister in the previous Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra.

The FIR names him, his son Pankaj, nephew Samir and 14 others. The case relates to awarding of contract for construction of new building of Maharashtra Sadan, the state government’s guest house in New Delhi.

The other accused named in the FIR are Arun Deodhar, Devdutt Marathe, Bipin Sankhe, Krishna Chamankar, Pranita Chamankar, Tanvir Sheikh, Sanjay Joshi, Manik Shaha, Deepak Deshpande, Anil Kumar Gaikwad, Pravina Chamankar, Prasanna Chamankar, Iram Tanvir Sheikh and Geeta Joshi.

Following a complaint lodged by Aam Aadmi Party leader Anjali Damania, state ACB had initiated a probe against the Bhujbal and his family. Damania had alleged that there had been rampant corruption and large-scale irregularities in the construction of the new Maharashtra Sadan.
The Public Works Department, under Bhujbal, awarded sub-contracts to firms in blatant violation of rules. All these firms were floated or controlled by the members of the Bhujbal family, Damania alleged.

As per reports, the new Maharashtra Sadan was built at the cost of Rs 100 crore when Congress-NCP coalition was in power in Maharashtra.

    “The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing Bhujbal of misusing his position and receiving kickbacks on a projects.”

    Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) senior leader and MLA Chhagan Bhujbal as well as his family members had been accused of abusing power and amassing huge wealth by social workers AAP activist Anjali Damania and Sanjeev Khandekar in a complaint before the Anti-Corruption Bureau (A-CB).

    In a written complaint, AAP leader Damania had demanded that the A-CB must register a criminal complaint under Prevention of Corruption Act and Money Laundering Act against Bhujbal amassing illegal assets worth Rs 2,520 crore as the clear evidence of disproportionate assets of Bhujbal’s family.

    NCP’s Chhagan Bhujbal has meanwhile said that the party will back the minority BJP government in the pretext of providing a stable government in Maharashtra.

    Now it is to observe and be vigilant how present BJP government in Maharashtra deals with the leaders like Chhagan Bhujbal of NCP which BJP before Maharashtra election had quite rightly named the NCP as National Corrupt Party ……………….
