Draft bill for statehood of Delhi ready, says Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, on Saturday announced that the draft bill for the statehood of Delhi was ready and his government will soon place the document in public domain.

Taking to twitter, Kejriwal said, “Draft Bill for Statehood of Delhi ready. Will be soon placed in public domain for comments n suggestions from public.”

The full statehood of Delhi has been a thorny issue between the ruling AAP and the opposition BJP. Kejriwal, despite having won a historic mandate in February last year, has often complained of unnecessary interference by the central government through the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, who reports to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

On several occasions, the state government accused the LG of declaring several key policy decisions null and void allegedly at the behest of the central government.
