Doctors in Rajasthan fight inside operation theatre, removed after video goes viral

A shocking video of Rajasthan doctors fighting inside an operation theatre at Rajasthan’s Umaid Hospital in Jodhpur has gone viral. The video will no doubt cause considerable embarrassment to the state’s BJP government.

In the video the doctor performing surgery at a patient, who remains unconscious, is is seen engaged in a verbal spat with his colleagues and even threatens to assault him.

It’s not clear what triggered the ugly spat inside an operation theatre, but the video proved just how insensitive these doctors are. This also comes as a crude reminder that the medical profession in India was no longer about empathy and compassion.

The pregnant lady in question, who was being operated, lost her newborn child.

“When the woman( the pregnant patient) was admitted, fetus was in distress and she had low heartbeat. We will still probe reason for newborn’s death,” said the Superintendent, Umaid Hospital.

Soon after we reported the video, the Rajasthan government announced it was removing both the doctors with immediate effect.

AL Bhat, the principal of the hospital, said, “Both doctors have been removed immediately and disciplinary action will be taken against them.”

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan High Court too took cognisance of the video and directed the Jodhpur collector to take strict action against the culprits. The court gave the administration time till 4 September to inform what action had been taken.

The High Court also added that the incident at Umaid Hospital had tarnished the image of both Jodhpur and medical world, reported ANI.

The development comes close on the heels of more than 200 children forced to die in Gorakhpur, town of another BJP ruled state. Critics have questioned if the healthcare was at all a priority for the government in BJP-ruled states.
