According to a report by PTI, Ashok Kumar Tomar has been suspended because of his role in threatening the victim’s in the past. He was posted in the central district as an Assistant Sub-Inspector.

The video of Rohit Tomar punching, slapping and kicking in her the girl’s private part had gone viral on social media, leaving everyone shocked. Soon after Janta Ka Reporter first reported the video, the story had found space on other media outlets, forcing Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to take cognisance of the matter.

The Delhi Police, which had refused to act on the matter despite being alerted about the severity of the case by several prominent journalists, had suddenly moved with lightning speed after Singh’s intervention.

Moments after the home minister spoke to Delhi Police Commissioner, the cops arrested Rohit Tomar and his friends, who were complicit in the crime. Critics had lamented that the Delhi Police could only act after a person no less than the country’s home minister intervened. This, they argued, abundantly proved just how incompetent and corrupt the police force in India’s national capital had become.

Three arrested so far are Rohit Tomar, the 21-year-old son of the policeman, Ali Hasan, the owner of the call center where the incident happened, and Rajesh, a peon who worked there and shot the video.

Tomar has been booked for criminal intimidation and molestation and the other of rape based on the complaints by two women. Tomar had allegedly shown the violent video to his ex-girlfriend in a bid to frighten her so that she could marry him.

The first case was registered on Thursday at the Tilak Nagar police station in West Delhi following a complaint by Tomar’s woman friend alleging that he showed her a video in which he could be seen thrashing a woman, Deputy Commission of Police (DCP West) Monika Bhardwaj was quoted by PTI.

The second case was registered at the Uttam Nagar police station after another woman, who was seen in the video, approached the police on Friday alleging that on September 2, Rohit had called her to his friend’s office in Uttam Nagar and raped her, added the news agency’s report.
