In a dramatic development on Saturday, Delhi Police arrested Aam Aadmi Party MLA, Dinesh Mohaniya, as he addressed media personnel at his office.

The MLA said, “Aap dekh sakte hain Police kaise gundagardi karke mujhe le jaa rahi hai (You can see how police have resorted to goondaism to take me from from.)”

Earlier in the day at his office Mohaniya addressed the media to attack the cops for targetting him in the alleged case of misbehaving with women.

Mohaniya, who was booked for misbehaving with women, is has now been accused of slapping a 60-year-old senior citizen.

The incident took place in the Tughlakabad locality of the city where Mohaniya had gone for a visit on Friday.

According to the victim, the incident took place when some people, including Mohaniya, came to his area for a survey.

The Sangam Vihar MLA, according to ANI, slapped the senior citizen because he had failed to recognise the former.

“Seeing the crowd, I went there. There Dinesh Mohaniya slapped me after the people surrounded me. And to add to that, one of the guys even twisted my hand,” he told ANI.

A case was registered against Mohaniya under Sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 341(punishment for wrongful restraint) and 34 (act done by several persons) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Govindpuri Police Station.

ACP, Delhi Police, Jimmy Chiram, said, “we have added 354 and 354b sections of the IPC as well.” Mohaniya was later sent to judicial custody till Monday.

Delhi Police had booked Mohaniya for allegedly ‘misbehaving’ with women.

An FIR was lodged against the MLA, who’s also the vice-chairman of Delhi Jal Board, after locals alleged that the MLA and his supporters roughed them up and misbehaved with women in his office when they went to complain about irregular water supply.

In her complaint, the woman had said, “When we went to Dinesh Mohaniya’s office, he refused to identify me. I visit his office everyday to bring water-related issues to his notice. The most important part is that he doesn’t even sign or puts a stamp on our complaints. After that, he pushed me and other women and even abused us. We want that an FIR should be registered against him and he should be arrested.

Mohaniya said that this was an attempt to defame his reputation as the water mafia was frustrated because of the Delhi government’s crackdown.

He had also denied that the woman complainant never visited his office.

“There is no video or photographic proof to back this allegation. It is an attempt to defame me. The water mafia is now frustrated because of our crackdown,” Mohaniya said.

“She never came to my office. There is no video footage. Everyone is running the news that there is a video, but no one is ready to show any such video. I am not there in the video neither does the woman,” he added.
