Police in the Indian capital say that a 55-year-old man on Tuesday allegedly killed his daughter and grievously injured other members of his family at Delhi’s Sangam Vihar area.

The alleged killed has been identified as one Nand Kishore, who attacked his wife Vidyawati, two daughters Kavita and Suman with an iron rod, added a report by news agency PTI. Both his daughter are unmarried and the accused has unsuccessfully been trying to arrange finances for their marriage.

According to police, Kishore has three sons and three daughters. His three sons were present in another room when he allegedly attacked his daughters.

22-year-old Kavita was declared brought dead at the hospital, while his wife and other daughter are still fighting for life as their condition continue to be critical.

According to a senior police officer, they suspected that Kishore, who repairs bicycles in Sangam Vihar area, attacked his loved ones in frustration. He attacked his victims using an axle of a cycle-rickshaw in their sleep, added a report by Hindustan Times. His wife and another daughter managed to escape because their sons woke up and and stopped his father.

“Around 5.30am, he suddenly attacked his wife and two daughters who were sleeping on one bed. Their cries woke up Kishore’s son Rahul who stopped the attack and rushed his injured mother and sisters to a hospital,” one investigating officer was quoted as saying.

Deputy commissioner of police (south) Romil Baaniya said that Kishore, who hails from Bihar, did not try to run after the alleged assault and instead followed his injured family to a hospital to check on them. The cops arrested him as soon as the murder weapon was recovered.
